How to Setup SMTP settings for linux server hosted website.?
im newly hosted my website. i got cpanel. in my website i need confirmation mail to registered users. when users registering by their yahoo mail id or other mail id’s they not reciving conformation mails where as abc@abc.com <pop mail users only reciving> confirmation mails.
as website is for all. my members all to need confirmation mail from my site to their yahoo or other mail ids to continue as members in my site.. i need to know "SMTP MAIL Settings "
expecting help from yu any one..
thanks in advance.
SMTP is a host’s issue. The level to which it is enabled varies dramatically.
For example, GoDaddy allows full mail functionality through PHP, while some host only let your receive mail through their webmail client.
I strongly suggest you check with your hosting company.
If you have already and they won’t allow, you will have to buy a better package.

Build Your Blog!
Want to have your own blog?
In this material you will learn step by step how to make a blog.
I will present you 3 solutions for building a blog:
1. using Blogger.com
2. using WordPress
3. using Joomla
1. Using Blogger.com (www.blogger.com)
Blogger.com was launched in August 1999 by Evan Williams and Meg Hourihan (Pyra Labs) and purchased by Google in February 2003.
Blogger.com is one of the most popular solutions for blogging.
To use Blogger.com you must make an account on the site. This is easy, simply fill a short online form with your email address, name, username and password.
You will get access to dashboard, the place from where you create blogs and manage them. Click create a new blog and choose a blog title (must be unique) and a blog address. I suggest putting your keywords in the blog title and address.
After that just choose a template that you like and you have your blog.
Blogger strengths:
Is free
Open source
Easy to use
Don’ t need a domain name or a web host
Blogger weakness is that you can loose the information from your blog. So keep every post on your hard disk.
Example of blogs build with Blogger: http://affiliatesecretsrevealed.blogspot.com, a blog about affiliate marketing and http://funnygiftideas.blogspot.com a blog about funny gifts.
2. Using WordPress (www.wordpress.org)
WordPress is publishing software with a focus on easy of use, speed and a great user experience.
WordPress is a powerful personal publishing platform, and it comes with a great set of features designed to make your experience as a publisher on the Internet as easy, pleasant and appealing as possible.
For using WordPress you must have a domain name and hosting.
To find a good web hosting service visit www.web-hosting-advisor.info.
If your hosting service has the cpanel application installing WordPress is very easy: just go to cpanel, Fantastico, WordPress, and click install. Just follow the info on the screen.
If you don’t have cpanel don’t worry, download the install kit from http://wordpress.org/download. You can find WordPress online manual on http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page.
Read the manual and follow the instruction, installation is simple.
WordPress strengths:
Is free
Easy to use
Powerful
Weakness WordPress demands minimal computer knowledge.
Example of blogs build with WordPres: www.plasmatelevisionadvice.info a blog about plasma television advice, tips, shopping guide and www.gadgets-club.com a blog for gadget fans.
3. Using Joomla (www.joomla.org)
Joomla is a free, open source portal solution.
With Joomla you can build a portal and a blog.
Joomla is recommended for a person who wants more than a blog.
You must have a domain name and hosting to be able to install Joomla.
Installing Joomla is very easy: just download the install kit from http://forge.joomla.org/sf/frs/do/viewRelease/projects.joomla/frs.joomla_1_0.1_0_12, upload it on your server and click install.
Follow the on screen instructions you and will do fine.
Joomla strengths:
Is free
Open source
Easy to install
Builds an entire website, not just a blog
Weakness of Joomla in the complexity. It may take a while to learn how to use it.
Example of blogs build with Joomla: http://www.giftideasblog.net a blog that presents cool gift ideas and http://www.killdeal.info/content/blogsection a blog about hot offers and kill deals.
Now it is up to you to choose the solution that fits you best.

Cheap Website Hosting
Finding cheap website hosting has never been easier. Technology and bandwidth are getting less expensive every day and the cost of website hosting is going down just the same.
Many people and small business owners have hesitated going online with a website because they don’t think they can afford to do it. They have taken a look at the large amount of money big companies are spending on their websites and hosting. But the reality is, most companies can use a cheap website hosting provider and stay well within a budget.
One place to look to in regards to cheap website hosting is free hosting services. You can not get any cheaper than that. After the dot com boom free website hosting didn’t disappear they just became a bit harder to find. There are only a few big names left in the free hosting circle such as GeoCities and Tripod.
Free hosting is good if you are just starting out and money is an issue. The problem is it has a lot of limitations. Most come with ads all over your site and you do not share in the revenue they may produce. If your site was to become popular and have a lot of visitors they could suspend your site because of to much usage or force you to sign up for a paid account. This may be the ultimate cheap website hosting but may not be what is best for you.
If you need cheap website hosting but are not sure if you want to the commitment of a yearly plan, but you don’t want the limitations that a free hosting company will impose on you, you have a few options available for your consideration.
Cheap website hosting is available on a pay as you go plan. This is not real popular as of yet but is becoming more available all the time. You do not pay a monthly fee. What you do is, put money on your account then each time someone accesses your site a small amount is taken off the books. This way you are only paying for what you are using.
Another cheap website hosting plan is finding a web host that does not make you commit to a long term agreement. Many cheap web host providers will offer a monthly plan that is reasonable and affordable. You have all the benefits, but do not have the long term commitment should you change your mind.
You can find cheap website hosting with great customer service for as little as five dollars or less a month. You will have all the disk space and bandwidth needed to make your online presence a success. To find these do your homework. Research and also find others who have used or are using a particular company you are interested in.
A word of caution in regards to some cheap website hosting companies. Do not let them over sell you. You do not need a huge amount of disk space or bandwidths so don’t pay for a excessive amount. Try and find a cheap web host that will allow you to add to your disk space or bandwidth as you go.

Internet Marketing Basics – I Have My Niche Idea, Now What?
Okay, so you have a great niche market idea in mind, and you are ready to get out there and make some money. Creating a web presence for your niche comes is a few different forms. Depending on your web expertise or your pocket book will determine what you will call home for your niche. Here are a few suggestions and tips to help get your niche idea on the internet.
1. Acquire your own domain with paid hosting
Depending on availability, choosing a domain name that matches your niche/keyword is key to building traffic. For example, if your niche/keyword was “easy crochet patterns”, you would want to get a domain name as close to those words as possible, such as “easycrochetpatterns.com”. You will need to get hosting for your domain and depending on where you go, fees start for under $10.
2. Use a free web hosting site.
You can host your newly acquired domain on a free site as well, however you probably will have some sort of advertising posted on your site. This can give your web site a less professional look and may turn customers off that feel if you cannot pay to have an ad-free site, you do not have your whole heart into what you are doing. If you do not purchase your own domain, you can get a sub-domain through the free sites as well. Your web address would look something like: “easycrochetpatterns.freewebhost.com”. Again, not a very professional look, but still an option.
3. WordPress.com
You may have already heard about Web 2.0. Basically it involves bringing ease of use and real time functionality to your web presence. WordPress.com allows you to set up a sub-domain for free and have all the ease of design at your fingertips. For additional features or to host your own domain, there is a fee.
4. Create a blog
Blogging is all the rage lately. If you are not doing it, you are out of the loop! Blogger.com allows you to host your own blog, again as a sub-domain, but will a twist. Search engines love blogs and with well designed and high quality content, you can move up the search engine rankings quickly and bring more traffic to your site. Blog is short for weblog and includes almost anything kind of content – text, images, video, and audio.
5. Squidoo and Hubpages
Two more sites that are loved by the search engines are Squidoo.com and Hubpages.com. Considered online publishing ecosystems, you can have your sub-domain hosted for free. Both sites allow you to post messages, video, advertising (to make extra cash), polls, audio applications, you name it. Web pages hosted on these sites are hot right now, and search engines love them too.
Where ever you choose to host your site, do not wait until tomorrow. Get started today. I recommend you choose to host your niche/keywords at a few different places to get additional exposure. You could have your own domain, and then have a Squidoo lens or a blog linking back to it. The choices are virtually limitless. The more original quality content you post on the web, the better chances are to building traffic and then income.
Starting your own internet business can be overwhelming to start – there seems to be too many choices and one sometimes finds it difficult deciding where to start. Difference between goDaddy wordpress and web hosting?
What’s the difference between goDaddy’s wordpress hosting and web hosting? is it just that the wordpress hosting service has wordpress pre-installed or are there more differences?
Its just another option to host your wordpress site. A place to park it
WordPress = free
Hosting = paid
To host a WordPress site you need a webhosting platform that supports php/mySQL and recommend Linux hosting (not Windows)
A few of the best WP hosting platforms out there: these cater to WP well:

database MS Access php in linux?
I used to program very small database driven websites using ODBC connections in windows and ASP long time ago.
Today, after may be 10 years of not programming anymore, i need to do it again but i have a problem.
The hosting i am using is Linux, and there is no option for ODBC connections in the CPANEL.
I just need a very small application and the convenience of updating the database from time to time by editing it on a local computer using MS Access and re-uploading it via FTP. I do not have the time to learn PHP and MySQL from scratch and then write a whole application to edit and display mysql database contents on a simple webpage.
So is there a simple way to do this? to use an .mdb file with linux hosting and some basic php to display the contents of the database like i used to do with ISS ?
thank you
You can’t use access, or MSsql with Linux. Your best bet would be to move to a windows platform since that is what you’re familiar with.
Free or very cheap reliable web hosting?
I have a job interview on Thursday and I want to have my website active online by then.
Does anyone know of free or cheap website hosting? Or at least a good web host that will let you pay for hosting for just one month at a time, rather than prepaying for a couple month’s or year’s worth of hosting?
Thanks for any help.
Most hosting companies don’t offer monthly payment, because they want your money up front, and those that do usually charge huge setup fees.
Of those that do offer monthly payment Dreamhost is the best!
Check their plan at http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html
If you chose the monthly payment there’s a $50 setup fee, but you can use the promo code DNA to waive the setup fee and just start paying $10.95/month. (a free domain name is included)
How to Create, Promote and Earn Money From your Own Blog
For starters, what is a blog? In general terms, it is a sort of interactive, regularly updated online journal. A blog owner is called a blogger, the activity of keeping a blog is called blogging, and the blogging community and everything related to blogging is collectively known as the blogosphere.
How are blogs created? There are several options. The cost-free way is to start a blog at one of the countless free blog services, such as the Google service called blogger. Another option is to use one of the free blog scripts and install it at a paid or free hosting service. Such free blog scripts are also numerous, the most popular of them being wordpress. It is also possible to sign up for a paid hosting service with an already installed wordpress blog, but this service is somewhat costlier.
Now let’s assume that we already have a blog. The next question is: Where do we get content? Choose the subject for your blog. It may be your professional occupation or hobby. In any case, you must have solid knowledge of the subject. For instance, if you are a proctologist, you may write about hemorrhoids, their treatment, prevention and suchlike as long as these are not scientific articles, but materials written in layman’s language. To give you a more practical example, if your hobby is dogs, write about them and people will enjoy it. There is another way to get content. The web has many services offering free articles. All you have to do is select the most interesting ones and publish them. In this way you can quickly fill your blog with content.
Moving on to the question of promoting your blog, it is worth noting that blogs are better indexed by search engines than ordinary web sites due to the specifics of the algorithm used in blogs. For instance, a new article in a well-promoted blog may appear on the search engine results page already on the following day. Of course, this requires registration in special catalogs devoted to blogs, which is what you will do next. Another way is to publish articles with a link to your blog. There are also services meant for just this purpose.
But most importantly, a search engine needs external links to your blog from other web sites. These should be good links generating heavy traffic. What does it mean? It means that ideally the link should be on the web site’s main page. What’s more, this page should have a PR rating of at least 4 (PR or Google Page Rank reflects the significance of any particular web page). Five or six such links will do more than hundreds of other ordinary links. How can you get such links? There are also various options. For instance, you can find a resource thematically related to your blog and offer its owners to reciprocate links. Finally, you can buy such links. The higher the web site’s PR rating, the more such links will cost you.
Now let’s move on to the question of how you can earn money from your own blog. The scheme is quite simple: traffic is converted into money. Your income increases proportionately with the traffic volume. One way to earn from a blog is to place ads, which is done most often through google adwords. Another way is to participate in partnership programs associated with the subject of your blog. So if your blog is devoted to dogs, you should advertise flea control products and other dog-related merchandise. A third way is to sell your own merchandise or services. Of course, you can combine several ways of generating income in a single blog. Last but not least, remember that strength is in numbers, which is why it’s a good idea to maintain several resources at the same time.
